Lancia Rally 037 the legend of the rally world
Share
The Lancia Rally 037 is one of the most legendary icons of the world of rallying, born from an ambitious project led by Sergio Limone and announced by Cesare Fiorio in 1981. This car, the result of the collaboration between Lancia, Pininfarina, Dallara and Abarth, was developed to compete in Group B of rallying, a golden age for this sport. The 037 derives from the chassis of the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo, produced by Dallara and bodied by Pininfarina, with a 2-liter supercharged inline-4 engine, capable of delivering 205 HP in the road version and pushing the car over 220 km/h.
Despite the limited success of the road version, the 037 became a rally legend, winning the World Championship in 1983, the last two-wheel drive car to achieve such a feat. Its powerful engine and lightweight construction allowed it to successfully meet the challenges of the most advanced four-wheel drive cars. The 037 is also famous for having formed the development base for the future Volumex + turbo powertrain of the Lancia Delta S4.
