BMW M3 E30: The German Sports Icon Celebrated in an Exclusive T-Shirt

The BMW M3 E30, introduced in 1986, is still an undisputed icon among the Bavarian manufacturer's sports cars. Born as a high-performance variant of the 3 Series, the M3 E30 was designed to dominate both on the road and on the track. Initially, BMW engineers had planned to equip it with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, derived from a Formula 2 engine. However, the final version of the BMW M3 E30 received a 2.3-liter naturally aspirated engine, with 16 valves and a power output of 200 hp (195 hp for the catalytic converter version). This configuration allowed the car to reach a top speed of 235 km/h, supported by a suspension and brake system optimized for high performance.
The design of the E30 M3 is equally impressive. Compared to the standard sedan from which it is derived, the M3 has a more aggressive look, characterized by spoilers, aerodynamic appendages and a massive rear wing. In 1988, the range was expanded with the introduction of the BMW M3 Evolution, which saw power increase to 215 hp and a top speed of 240 km/h. In 1989, the Cabriolet version was also launched, equipped with the same 200 hp engine.
For fans of sporty driving, the Sport Evolution variant represents the pinnacle of performance. With a 2.5-liter engine that delivers 238 hp, this version stands out with a wider grille, an adjustable front splitter and a larger rear wing. The E30 BMW M3 dominated circuit racing in the 1980s and 1990s, prompting BMW to celebrate its success with two limited editions dedicated to champions Nicola Ravaglia and Johnny Cecotto, winners of the 1989 DTM and the Italian Touring Car Championship respectively.
